Anees Bazmee says he became more selective with work this year AMID his reunion with Akshay Kumar: 'Focused on stories that genuinely excite me'

Anees Bazmee is a name associated with many Bollywood blockbuster films. From trying his hand at romantic dramas, comedies, and horror, he has come a long way in entertaining audiences with films such as ‘Pyaar Toh Hona Hi Tha’, ‘Hulchul’, ‘No Entry’, and ‘Bhool Bhulaiyaa 3’.

ETimes contacted the director as he is all set to reunite with Akshay Kumar for a comedy film after almost 15 years. Bazmee not only confirmed the reunion but also reflected on how the year 2025, has treated him, both personally and professionally.


Reflecting on the year gone by, Anees Bazmee says, “The year treated me with gratitude. It had its challenges, but it also gave me good work, creative satisfaction, and the love of the audience, which matters the most to me.”

Speaking about how the year changed him, the filmmaker adds, “This year reminded me to enjoy the process more. I became more selective with my work and focused on stories that genuinely excite me.”

Sharing a wish that remained unfulfilled, Bazmee admits, “I wished to spend more quality time with my family, but work kept me busy. Hopefully, I’ll balance it better going forward.”

Addressing the year itself, he says, “Thank you for the lessons, the experiences, and the love. You made me stronger and wiser.”

Looking ahead to the future, Bazmee reveals his resolution for the coming year: “To stay healthy, stay passionate about cinema, and continue making films that entertain people and bring smiles to their faces.”

The new comedy film on which Anees and Akshay are working on is reported to be a remake of a Telugu film, titled, 'Sankranthiki Vasthunam', however there is no confirmation on the same. Anees in a media report had also opened about his long association with Akshay Kumar and had told that they share a mutual respect and were always in touch with each other.
