The contemporary art scene at the international level is very exciting says a visibly excited Amol Palekar. The actor, director and theatre personality, recently had his solo painting exhibition in Mumbai on his 70th birthday. Talking about the vast field of art he says, “So many experiments are being done for decades – intertwining the visual art, performing art, video art etc.
Merging its boundaries with finesse. Installations are very popular even at public places.”
He agrees that there are works that are imitations, but he applauds the variety being done. “In India, artistes are coming up with their own unique expression, some of it is indeed imitation but some are sparkling and original. The commercial boost that the auction houses are giving to some of our stalwarts has impacted very positively throughout the artist community. Events like art festivals, biennale are encouraging artistes and creating aesthetic orientation among viewers. This is all very significant,” he adds.
