In recent times, it has been noticed that the line between comedy and dark humor is getting thinner by the day. In such times, singer-actor Ammy Virk shares why he refrains from double-meaning jokes and why it is important to do clean comedy. Read on to know more.

Ammy Virk says he even removes words like ‘saala’ from his films

Ammy has had a dozen or more than two dozen movies in Pollywood and has recently been seen making a place for himself in Bollywood films as well. He is best known for his comedy films in both industries. In his recent interaction with Hindustan Times, the actor was asked how he maintains a line between clean comedy and dark humor. The ‘Khel Khel Mein’ star mentioned that they will have to maintain this line, and added that he can’t afford that someday his daughter comes up to him questioning his work on such grounds.“Humein voh line rakhni padhegi. I have a daughter, tomorrow she can ask me, ‘Papa, what is this?’ after seeing such content. I’ve done 30–35 films, and I don’t think even one has a double-meaning line,” he said. He added that it is more than what he speaks on the big screen, but the entire intent that goes behind it. “It’s not just about what I speak, even words like ‘saala’, we remove wherever possible, even though it refers to brother-in-law.
Maybe unintentionally, by mistake at the beginning of my career, I might have, but I avoid it now.”

Doing comedy is not easy, says Ammy Virk

In the same conversation, the actor was asked does he feel that even in today’s day and age, Punjabi actors are treated as comic relief in Bollywood. He took pride in the genre and said that doing comedy is not a small thing, but experimentation has now begun. He cited examples and shared, “Diljit Dosanjh has done ‘Amar Singh Chamkila’ (2024). It’s not like we can’t do serious roles. I’ve done those in Punjabi films like ‘Qismat’ and ‘Harjeeta’ (both 2018), which also won the National Award. It depends on the kind of film really today.”He added that bringing a smile to someone’s face isn’t easy, especially today, with so much content exposure, where everyone has heard every joke already. “You have to make faces, act in a way that people laugh when they watch. Hamara toh mann hai hum poori umar comedy karein. It looks easy, but it’s actually very difficult,” noted the ‘Godday Godday Cha 2’ actor.
