Amitabh Bachchan on Jaya Bachchan's sacrifice: 'Grateful' she gave up her career for family—'When I was working day and night, she...'
In a recent interview, journalist Pooja Samant revealed that Amitabh spoke candidly about how much he owed to his wife for putting family first. The veteran actor said he was “grateful” not just to his parents for shaping his life but also to Jaya, who gave up her acting career to raise their children. “When I was working day and night, Jaya left her career to take care of the house and instill strong values in Shweta and Abhishek,” he told Samant.
Love notes hidden in a lunchbox
Life in the 1970s and 80s was far removed from today’s world of instant messaging. Amitabh recalled how Jaya found her own way of keeping communication alive when he was often busy on sets. She would slip handwritten notes into his tiffin.
Jaya Bachchan chose family over fame
Jaya Bachchan, regarded as one of the finest actresses of her time, had already proven her mettle in films like 'Guddi,' 'Abhimaan,' and 'Sholay.' Samant noted that Amitabh deeply respects the decision Jaya made to prioritize their family over her acting career. “Had she continued consistently, she would have reached even greater heights,” the journalist quoted him as saying. But for Jaya, family came first, and her choice made it possible for Amitabh to give himself entirely to his work during the peak of his career.
