But behind his fame lies a story of struggle. After a near-fatal accident on the sets of 'Coolie,' he developed a serious health problem that was only discovered years later.

Speaking on 'Kaun Banega Crorepati' (KBC) in the past, he said, "In 1982, during the accident, I needed a lot of blood; nearly 200 people donated, and there were 60 bottles. And amongst them was one person who was carrying the Hepatitis B virus, which wasn't detected."
The 'Silsila' actor explained how the virus entered his body and remained hidden for years. "This happened in 1982. And in 2005, during a general investigation, it was detected. 75 percent of my liver has been destroyed. Toh abhi main jeewith hoon 25 per cent live pe (Now, I'm alive on 25 per cent liver)." Amitabh also stressed that timely investigations are very important, as ignoring such diseases can be dangerous.
Recently, on X (formerly Twitter), he wrote, “जब तक जीवन है तब तक संघर्ष है. चले संघर्ष करने (Jab tak Jeevan hai, tab tak sangharsh hai, chaliye sangharsh karte, As long as there is life, there is struggle. Let us continue to struggle.” The post went viral, motivating many who look up to him for inspiration. He continues hosting KBC even at eighty-two.

How Big B’s accident led to a hepatitis infection
The 'Sholay' actor’s health took a serious turn during the 1983 film 'Coolie.'
