Dravida Muttera Kazhagam (DMK) president and former chief minister of Tamil Nadu
Muthuvel Karunanidhi
passed away on Tuesday evening after suffering multiple organ failures due to his age-related health issues. Since last night, several eminent personalities from Tamil film industry have been expressing their condolences to the family members.
Following Rajinikanth and
Kamal Haasan, the Bollywood megastar
Amitabh Bachchan has now mourned the demise of Kalaignar Karunanidhi.
Sharing a picture of Karunanidhi on Twitter, Amitabh Bachchan wrote, “பிரார்த்தனை மற்றும் இரங்கல் , for the Honourable and dynamic leader Shri Karunanidhi .. I received my very 1st National Award for '
Saat Hindustani
' from him, when the ceremony was held in Chennai that year .. he was the CM.”
Apparently, Amitabh Bachchan received his first National Award for ‘Saat Hindustani’ from Karunanidhi when he was the then chief minister of Tamil Nadu. It must be noted that Amitabh Bachchan and Karunanidhi shared the dais together during the audio launch of Kamal Haasan’s ‘Dasavatharam’ back in 2008. In fact, Amitabh Bachchan presided over as the chief guest for the event ‘Pasa Thalaivar Parattu Vizha’, which was organised by Tamil film industry to thank M Karunanidhi.
Meanwhile, many film personalities paid homage to the DMK patriarch at Rajaji Hall in Chennai. Reports suggest that Karunanidhi will be buried near Anna Memorial at Marina Beach.
