Amidst India's women's national cricket team's World Cup win, Abhishek Bachchan, Saiyami Kher's 'Ghoomer' set to re-release in theatres as tribute on THIS date
The Indian Women's national cricket team made the country proud as they won the World Cup 2025. They played the finals against South Africa and just as they won, the entire nation has been showering love on the team. For many, this is a big achievement also because women were not always welcomed in the field of cricket but now are here to conquer. Amidst this huge achievement, the makers of 'Ghoomer' have decided to re-release the film. It will be releasing in theatres this Friday, November 7. It had originally released in August 2023.
'Ghoomer' stars Abhishek Bachchan and Saiyami Kher and is directed by R Balki. The film revolved around Saiyaami's character who is a cricketer and loses her right arm in an accident. She is then coached by Abhishek's character Padam Singh Sodhi. Eventually her biggest drawback of losing her arm turns into her strength, because of her coach who just refuses to give up on her.
Talking about re-releasing the film as an ode to the World Cup Win by the women's team, R Balki said, "I’m thrilled that Ghoomer is releasing again to celebrate the incredible achievement of our women cricketers. Ghoomer was always a tribute to women’s cricket and the resilience of women cricketers. And they did it at the same stadium where Ghoomer was shot. Two matches, one fiction, one fact, on the same pitch. I can’t wait to see audience reactions again.”
Earlier during an exclusive chat with ETimes, as Abhishek spoke about the film and his character who has largely seen losses in life, he had said, "It takes great loss to inspire great success. That's what I enjoyed about this character. The rest of that about how we do it with ease, we leave it to the director's hands."
Apart from Abhishek and Saiyami, 'Ghoomer' also stars Shabana Azmi, Angad Bedi.
