Amid ‘Dhurandhar 2’, here's recalling when Ram Gopal Varma said Dawood Ibrahim had cold when a reporter met him: 'You wouldn't be scared if..'
Ram Gopal Varma is known for making some iconic gangster movies like 'Satya' and 'Company'. Not to mention, these films also required him to get a deep insight into the life of gangsters, which is why, he had a very 'humanly' approach towards these characters. When 'Satya' was re-released in theatres last year as the film completed 27 years, Varma had spoken about why he portrayed these gangsters in such a vulnerable, humanly way. Here's recalling what Varma had said amidst the success of 'Dhurandhar 2', which also portrayed Dawood Ibrahim's character. The internet was shocked about the fact that Dawood Ibrahim was shown in such a vulnerable manner in his old age, rather than how one has percieved him to be. During a chat with ETimes, RGV had recalled some instances he heard about Ibrahim during the re-release of 'Satya'.
Varma wanted to humanise a gangster and here's why. "One police officer told me, when we were tracking, zeroing on a gangster, out of the tension, he gets fever. He runs a high temperature. I thought that was incredible. A gangster getting a fever was not something I thought of. See, all these keep adding in my movies. One female reporter was one of the only ones who met Dawood Ibrahim. She met him once and he had a high cold. Another guy told me, you are scared of Dawood because he's on phone, he's an unknown man. But if you knew he stays in Bandra, you wouldn't be scared of him. He might be having the same power but you would think like, 'aree idhar hi rehta hai'," laughed the director .
The 'Sarkar' director also revealed that he was not scared of the underworld. The film-maker also recalled that many people had told him not to make 'Satya' as they thought the underworld would get upset. However, the opposite happened for Varma. "A lot of people warned me that don't make this. I'm not saying someone is bad. I'm just making a film. So, they were happy. I showed the human side of it. Infact, I was the only one at that time, who did not get a call for extortion because of Satya. They were like, 'usko chhodo'. I was given a free cut," he said.
