All you need to know about NCB's Zonal director Sameer Wankhede who is investigating the drug case involving Aryan Khan

The Zonal Director of NCB, Sameer Wankhede, has been in the news ever since the drug abuse allegations tumbled out of the investigations into Sushant Singh Rajput's death last year. He has also been talking to the media about Shah Rukh Khan's son Aryan Khan's arrest on Sunday. Since he has been making headlines of late, we take a look at his career so far...

Before joining NCB

Sameer is the son of a police officer. Before joining the NCB, he was with the National Investigation Agency and has also served in the Air Intelligence Unit. In 2013, when he was working with the customs department at Mumbai airport, he had reportedly caught singer Mika Singh with foreign currency.

Family life

Sameer Wankhede is married to Marathi actress-director Kranti Redkar. They are parents to twins. In a recent interaction with ETimes TV, the actress spoke about the high-profile drug raids, Sameer's sacrifices for the nation, and how she tries to maintain a peaceful environment at home. She said, ''Sameer has always been a hard worker. His operations and cases were there even before too. Today, he is dealing with Bollywood-related drug probe cases, which is why it is getting highlighted. I give him his space when he is investigating or working on operations. I never ask him what happened, how it happened because I respect the secrecy of his job. I take care of everything at home, which is why he can concentrate on his cases more".

Bollywood drug cases

Last year, Wankhede garnered attention when a drug angle was being explored in the aftermath of Sushant Singh Rajput's sudden death. The investigation involved Rhea Chakraborty, her brother Showik, the late actor's house staff and other friends. He was also a part of the interrogation of Rakul Preet Singh, Sara Ali Khan and Deepika Padukone when they were summoned by the agency for questioning.

Aryan Khan case

Aryan Khan and others were arrested by the NCB on Sunday after they raided a cruise ship and busted a drug party. Munmun Dhamecha, Nupur Sarika, Ismeet Singh, Mohak Jaswal, Vikrant Chhoker, Gomit Chopra and Arbaaz Merchant were also detained by the agency. Reacting to the allegations that the NCB was targeting Bollywood, Sameer said, ''There have been multiple instances where it has been said that we target Bollywood, but let’s not talk about opinions, let’s talk about facts and more importantly, statistics. In the last year, we have booked a total of 105 cases in 10 months. That’s an average of 10-12 cases every month. Now you tell me, out of those 105 cases, how many are celebrities? I’ll tell, a handful of them at best''.
