I was raised in India and we had a cow that was stationed on a farm. No body was cruel to the cow and the calves had plenty of milk. Consuming milk and milk products does not inflict injury to animals. Milk and milk products bring variety to the vegetarian diet. It is OK to not consume milk products for health reasons. Claiming milk and milk products cause cruelty to animals is wrong.
