Sanjay Leela Bhansali, ‘Gangubai Kathiawadi’ is a biographical drama that has made it to the prestigious film festival of Berlin. It will be screened in the Berlinale Special, a special segment of the festival that features exemplary cinema from all around the world and this year it will focus on films that were filmed and completed during the challenging times of the COVID-19 pandemic.
‘Gangubai Kathiawadi’ wrapped up its shooting schedule in Mumbai during the first and second wave of COVID-19 in India and took almost 2 years in the process. Apart from Alia in the lead, the film also stars Ajay Devgn, Vijay Raaz, Seema Pahwa, Shantanu Maheshwari, Jim Sarbh, Varun Kapoor and Indira Tiwari in key roles.
Based on a chapter from Hussain Zaidi's novel, ‘Mafia Queens of Mumbai’, the film will hit the theatre screens on February 25.
