At the heart of Bhushan Kumar’s nail-biting film 'Airlift' that releases on January 22, is a romantic story of a couple — played by
Akshay Kumar and
Nimrat Kaur — fighting for survival. The two make for an unlikely pair, as they belong to diametrically opposite schools of acting with very little common between them, besides their love for cinema. Nimrat with her theatre background and Akshay, with an array of commercial potboilers, bonded over their Punjabi roots and patriotism.
Akshay readily agreed for ‘Airlift’Since the actress comes from an army background, the film is extremely close to her heart. Her deep-rooted love for India struck a chord with the superstar, who himself was overwhelmed by the film’s patriotic theme. The fact that they are both Punjabis worked like a catalyst. The two would often start a conversation in their mother tongue and the crew members would be left confused, unable to decode their chat. With two Punjabis in the house, elaborate khana-shana wasn’t far away. Nimrat and Akshay also bonded over their love for North Indian food.
