Aishwarya set to storm Tollywood

KOLKATA: She might have caught the fancy of Hollywood, but glamour queen Aishwarya Rai seems to have set her eyes on Tollywood for the time being, as she landed here on Sunday to shoot her first Bengali film <i>Chokher Bali</I>.

<div class="section1"><div class="Normal">KOLKATA: She might have caught the fancy of Hollywood, but glamour queen Aishwarya Rai seems to have set her eyes on Tollywood for the time being, as she landed here on Sunday to shoot her first Bengali film <span style="" font-style:="" italic="">Chokher Bali</span>.<br />Having set the silver screen on fire with the portrayal of Saratchandra Chattopadhyay''s epic character <span style="" font-style:="" italic="">Parvati</span> in Sanjay Leela Bhansali''s Hindi adaptation of <span style="" font-style:="" italic="">Devdas</span>, Rai will regale Bengali audiences as <span style="" font-style:="" italic="">Binodini</span> in Rituparno Ghosh''s new film.<br />For the former Miss World, Nobel laureate Rabindranath Tagore''s character <span style="" font-style:="" italic="">Binodini</span> would be the second from Bengali literature that she plays, draped in Bangla handloom specially designed by Ghosh and Neeta Lula of <span style="" font-style:="" italic="">Devdas</span> fame.<br />Amid tight security at the technician''s studio in Tollywood, where shooting for the film is already underway, Rai would begin work this week opposite Prosenjit, reigning matinee idol of Bengali films and son of yesteryear''s Bollywood star Biswajit.<br />Young entrant Raima Sen, who took acting lessons from her illustrious grandmother Suchitra Sen to perfect her part, would also be seen as <span style="" font-style:="" italic="">Ashalata</span> in the movie.

<br />For Ghosh, who leads the bandwagon of contemporary film-makers reviving meaningful Bengali cinema, the experience of his national award-winning sole Hindi film <span style="" font-style:="" italic="">Utsav</span>, would come in handy to put together another period piece. <br />Incidentally, Bollywood choreographer-turned director Farah Khan is also shooting her debut directorial venture <span style="" font-style:="" italic="">Main Hoon Na</span> with Shah Rukh Khan at the hill resort of Darjeeling near here. </div> </div>
