After 8 A.M. Metro, Saiyami Kher and Gulshan Devaiah to team up for Raj R’s black-and-white short film - Report

The refreshing pairing that audiences first noticed in ‘8 A.M. Metro’ is back in the spotlight. Saiyami Kher and Gulshan Devaiah have wrapped their third collaboration together. This time, it's a dialogue-light romantic short film shot entirely in black and white. Filmed across Mumbai, the project has completed production and entered post-production. The team is expected to announce the title and release date soon.

A familiar pairing in a new setting

The short film follows the duo’s widely praised work in ‘8 A.M. Metro’, which was released in 2023. That film explored fleeting connections across Hyderabad’s public transport system. The new project shifts gears and moves to the quieter suburbs of Mumbai. According to a report by Mid Day, the makers chose real locations instead of studio sets to keep the film grounded and emotionally authentic.




Production wrapped up earlier this month and has quickly caught attention online. Several behind-the-scenes images have circulated widely, drawing interest to the film’s monochrome look and the on-screen chemistry of the lead pair. The director, touted as an emerging talent, has framed the project as an emotional continuation rather than a direct sequel to their earlier collaboration.

Monochrome storytelling and quiet preparation

The film uses black-and-white visuals to set the tone from the opening frame. With color removed, the focus stays on faces, pauses, and subtle emotional shifts. The story follows a romantic relationship and relies more on mood and performance than spoken dialogue. As reported by Mid-Day, the shoot followed a tight and focused schedule. Filming began on January 1 and wrapped on January 5, with a compact crew of around 100 people. A source close to the production pointed to the ease between the two actors. “Saiyami and Gulshan share a very organic comfort level, both on and off screen.”

Preparation played a key role because of the minimal dialogue. “Saiyami and Gulshan spent time working through the characters’ internal histories. Because the film relies on minimal dialogue, a lot of the prep was about understanding emotional continuity. They prepped for two weeks before the shoot,” the report further added.

The actors previously worked together in the Amazon Prime anthology ‘Unpaused’ in 2020, followed by ‘8 A.M. Metro’. This short film marks their third collaboration.
