Adil Hussain: I feel it’s very important that young students should be introduced to paintings
Adil Hussain inaugurated the art exhibition titled ‘Satva’ at the Civil Services Officers’ Institute in Delhi. The exhibition, a collaboration between artists Aashima Mehrotra and M. Sarada, explores the quest for reality and illusion in their Satva series.
The Satva series is about the concept of ‘Prakriti’ or the eternal flow of existence continually manifested on Earth. With 148 paintings on display, the exhibition showcases an eclectic range of mediums, from oil to encaustic.
Hussain, a national-award-winning actor known for his work in films like ‘Mukti Bhawan,’ expressed his admiration for the paintings, stating, “I saw the paintings and found them quite overwhelming. Of course, a lot of them are abstract, but at the same time, they have a base of very solid experiential reality. The truth that has been painted is of a very complex nature.I feel it’s very important that young students, from the age of 13 onwards, should be introduced to paintings of this nature so that they understand that truth is multidimensional and not one dimensional.Today’s society unfortunately runs after money and wealth. It is important but should not become the ultimate goal. Instead, the ultimate goal should be the search for beauty. How can your body, voice, and expression become the medium of beauty of the divine
Satva represents a personal journey on canvas for Aashima, a bureaucrat with Indian Railways, and Sarada, a legal expert. The collaboration between the two friends is described as a unique ‘jugalbandi’ in visual art, showcasing harmony in their original styles, colors, skills, and ideas.
Suman Kumar Singh, a noted art critic, commented on the distinctive nature of the exhibition, stating, “We often see ‘jugalbandi’ among musicians, but I haven’t seen something of this nature in the field of visual art. It’s rather impressive to see how two friends have found harmony on canvas with their original style, colour, skill, and ideas.”
