Abhishek Bachchan could be heading into new territory after King. A new report says the actor is in talks to star in a horror film backed by
Siddharth Anand, who is also directing him in
Shah Rukh Khan’s King. If the project moves ahead, it will mark Bachchan’s first full-fledged horror feature. The premise has already sparked interest, especially as Bachchan is set to explore a genre that contrasts sharply with his previous work in drama and comedy.
Abhishek Bachchan and Siddharth Anand’s horror film
According to Variety India, Siddharth Anand will produce the untitled film under his banner, with a close associate directing it and Bachchan starring in the lead role. The outlet reported that the movie is described as a folklore-based horror thriller focusing on an emotional father-daughter relationship. It is being planned as a large-scale drama that will heavily utilize visual effects (VFX) to deliver a unique theatrical experience within the Indian horror genre.
The detail stands out because Bachchan has not worked in horror before. The report says he will take on a character-driven role that requires a raw and emotionally intense performance. It also noted that Anand plans to mount the film as a mainstream commercial project at a time when Hindi horror has largely leaned toward horror-comedy. Production is expected to begin in September 2026.
‘King’ movie cast and Abhishek Bachchan’s next films
The reported horror film would extend a working relationship that has grown stronger through King. Bachchan had earlier made a cameo in Anand’s directorial debut, Salaam Namaste, which starred Saif Ali Khan and Preity Zinta. Now, the two are set to collaborate on a much bigger scale in King, where Bachchan will reportedly play the antagonist opposite Shah Rukh Khan.
The film has already attracted significant attention for its ensemble cast, which reportedly includes Deepika Padukone, Suhana Khan, Rani Mukerji, Anil Kapoor, Arshad Warsi, Jaideep Ahlawat, Raghav Juyal and Abhay Varma. King is slated for a Christmas 2026 weekend release.
Before that, Bachchan’s recent screen outing was Kaalidhar Laapata, where he played a middle-aged man dealing with memory loss. He also has Riteish Deshmukh’s historical epic Raja Shivaji lined up for release on May 1, 2026. If the reported horror film moves forward after King, it could open a fresh chapter in Bachchan’s career.Get the latest entertainment updates from the Times of India, along with the
