Abhijeet Sawant admits using dating app after marriage, reveals ‘bichari’ wife didn’t know: ‘Match aata tha, baat karte the…’

Abhijeet Sawant, the singer who won the very first season of 'Indian Idol', recently made a surprising confession. He revealed that he was active on a 'dating app' even after he got married. What’s more shocking? His wife, Shilpa Sawant, had no idea about it.

Why Abhijeet Joined the ‘Dating App’ After Marriage

Abhijeet explained that he created his dating app profile a few years after tying the knot. It all started when he was in the US with a friend who introduced him to the app. He told in a chat with Hindi Rush, “I'm a curious person. I've always had curiosity. I was in the US with my friend, and he said, 'This is a new app. It's for dating'. I made my profile then, and it was there as it is.”

Curiosity got the better of him, and although he didn’t really use it actively, he checked in now and then to see how the app worked. “Main kabhi kabhi beech mein jaata tha, dekhta tha kya hai yeh sab kya hota hai? Maine apna hi naam rakha tha sab kuch sahi tha. Biwi ko nahi pata tha. But kuch kiya nahi, kisise mila bhi nahi, kuch tha bhi nahi. (I used to go on it sometimes in between, to see what it was and how it worked. I had used my own name, everything was real. My wife didn’t know. But I didn’t do anything, I didn’t meet anyone, nothing happened.)”

Talking to 2-3 Women: It was more about conversation

Abhijeet didn’t just leave his profile dormant; he actually matched and chatted with a few women. But for him, it was more about enjoying conversations than anything else.

He said, “Match aata tha, baat karte the. Yeh cheeze na bohut ajeeb hai. Mujhe baat karne ka shokh hai aur aap ladkiyon se bohut deep baat karsakte ho...Main baat karta tha bohut. 2-3 log mil gaye the jo baat karte the acche se. (I used to get matches and we talked. These things are very strange. I like talking, and you can have very deep conversations with women...I used to talk a lot. I found 2-3 people who talked well.)”


The Moment Things Went Public and His Wife Found Out

The turning point came when news about his dating app account appeared on Twitter. That’s when Abhijeet realised it wasn’t a good look, especially for a married man. He admitted, “Baad mein Twitter pe agaya ki mera account hai, phir maine bola ki ‘Yeh accha nahi lagega’ (Afterwards it came on Twitter that I had an account, then I said ‘This won't look good’).”

Until then, Shilpa had no clue about his secret online activity. He said, “Usko nahi pata abhi tak, ab pata chal raha. Woh bichari usko pata bhi nahi kya hota hai Tinder. (She didn’t know until now, now she is finding out. Poor thing, she didn’t even know what Tinder is.)”

Abhijeet’s Take: If You Want to Do Something, Do It Openly

Abhijeet further said, “Ab pata chalgaya, open yaar, usme kya hai? Cheezein karni hai toh thok k karo phir. Kitna main sab cheeze jod sakta hoon yaar.(Now it’s out, be open, what’s the big deal? If you want to do something, then do it openly. How much can I cover up?)”
