‘Aashiqui 3’, ‘Tiger 3’, ‘Krrish 4’: Popular upcoming sequels we can't wait to watch!

Popular Bollywood movies often get converted into a franchise where the makers continue or expand the story with the same characters. Sequels like ‘KGF: Chapter 2’ and ‘Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2’ have already set the cash registers ringing at the box office this year by living up to the hype and there are many more all geared up to follow suit. From the recently announced, ‘Aashiqui 3’, ‘Fukrey 3’ to ‘Tiger 3’ and ‘Krrish 4’, here we take a look at some popular upcoming sequels we can’t wait to watch!

‘Aashiqui 3’

After two successful parts of ‘Aashiqui’, the makers are all set to give the audience yet another heart-wrenching love story with ‘Aashiqui 3’. The film is being directed by Anurag Basu with Kartik Aaryan in the lead role. The actor shared an announcement video on his social media handles. The video had the song, ‘Ab Tere Bin Jee Lenge Hum’ in the voice of Arijit Singh and fans just can’t keep calm.

The original ‘Aashiqui’, released in 1990, was helmed by Mahesh Bhatt and featured Rahul Roy and Anu Aggarwal. The second instalment was revived by Mohit Suri in 2013, starring Shraddha Kapoor and Aditya Roy Kapur.

‘OMG: Oh My God! 2’

After educating and entertaining the audience with ‘OMG: Oh My God’, the makers are all set for a sequel which will be headlined by none other than Akshay Kumar. The film also stars actors like Pankaj Tripathi, Yami Gautam, Arun Govil, Rofique Khan and others. The theme of the movie is the Indian education system. Many leaked pictures from the sets of the film have made their way onto social media and they have increased the excitement level of the fans.

Ali Fazal, who has been a pivotal character in the Fukrey series, won't be seen in the third instalment as he has dedicated his dates to Vishal Bhardwaj's upcoming film, ‘Khufiya’.

5/10

‘Dostana 2’

‘Dostana, which was released in 2008, is still remembered for its cast, chartbuster songs, and mostly for its progressive take on homosexuality. The makers announced the sequel to the film in 2019 with Janhvi Kapoor, Lakshya Lalwani and Kartik Aaryan in the lead roles. However, Kartik dropped out of the film in 2021 for reasons best known to the actor. Although the makers announced recasting for the film, it has been put on the back burner for now.

‘Krrish 4’

Hrithik Roshan announced ‘Krrish 4’ with a brief teaser on the 15th anniversary of the first film in the superhero franchise last year. The first film was ‘Koi... Mil Gaya’ which was released in 2003 with Hrithik and Preity Zinta in lead roles. This was followed by ‘Krrish’ in 2006 with Hrithik and Priyanka Chopra in the lead. ‘Krrish 3’ was released in 2013, where Hrithik and Priyanka were joined by Vivek Oberoi and Kangana Ranaut in the cast.

‘Tiger 3’

After the super success of the first two instalments, ‘Ek Tha Tiger’ and ‘Tiger Zinda Hai’, Salman Khan is all set to step into the shoes of Avinash ‘Tiger’ Singh Rathore once again. While he will be joined by his co-star Katrina Kaif, the makers have roped in Emraan Hashmi in the role of an antagonist for the third part. However, there has been no official announcement of his addition as yet. ‘Tiger 3’ will also have a special cameo by none other than Shah Rukh Khan’s ‘Pathaan’ character.

‘Gadar 2’

‘Gadar 2’ is the sequel of 2001 blockbuster ‘Gadar: Ek Prem Katha’. The film, which was officially announced in October, last year, will see Ameesha Patel and Utkarsh Sharma reprising their characters Sakeena and Charanjeet. It is being helmed by Anil Sharma. The original movie completed 20 glorious years in 2021. While Sunny and Ameesha will reprise their own characters, Utkarsh Sharma will play their grown-up son.
