Laapataa Ladies, India’s official entry for the 2025 Oscars, didn’t make it to the shortlist. Reacting to this in an interview, producer Aamir Khan said it’s not something to be taken too seriously. He also shared his thoughts on why the film wasn’t selected.
In conversation with ABP Live, Aamir explained that there was no shortcoming in the film, but the competition in the Foreign Language category is extremely tough. He pointed out that around 80-85 countries submit their best films, making it even more competitive than other Oscar categories.
The superstar also emphasized that the film’s exclusion doesn’t mean it wasn’t good; it just means the jury preferred other films. He explained that filmmaking is subjective, and everyone has different tastes, so such decisions shouldn’t be taken too seriously.
Directed by Kiran Rao and produced by Aamir Khan Productions, Laapataa Ladies is a comedy-drama featuring Nitanshi Goel, Pratibha Ranta, Sparsh Shrivastava, Chhaya Kadam, and Ravi Kishan. The film follows two newlywed brides mistakenly swapped during a train journey. While it struggled at the box office, it gained popularity on Netflix and became a 2024 favorite among critics and audiences.
