Aamir Khan has put an end to any hopes of a sequel to the beloved 2008 coming-of-age romantic comedy Jaane Tu… Ya Jaane Na. Despite the film’s enduring popularity, the actor-producer made it clear that a follow-up is not on the cards. In a candid revelation, filmmaker Abbas Tyrewala shared that Aamir strongly opposed the idea when it was brought up.
Fans Still Hope for a SequelIn a recent interaction on the YouTube channel Aamir Khan Talkies, Imran shared that fans often approach him in public, eagerly asking about the possibility of a Jaane Tu Ya Jaane Na sequel. Abbas Tyrewala echoed the sentiment, revealing that he receives similar messages almost daily on his Instagram.
Sequel Idea That Never Took OffAbbas Tyrewala shared that he had pitched a sequel idea for Jaane Tu… Ya Jaane Na to Aamir Khan shortly after the film’s release. The proposed storyline would have explored a rough patch in Jai and Aditi’s relationship, beginning with the couple on the verge of separation. As part of the plot, Jai—under emotional strain and intoxicated—would encounter his former love interest, Meghna, at a party. However, the idea didn’t move forward, as Aamir was not keen on revisiting the film.
Aamir Khan’s Strong ReactionAamir Khan, however, wasn’t on board with the idea. According to Abbas Tyrewala, Aamir strongly dismissed the concept, especially given the proposed direction of the story. Tyrewala also acknowledged that he himself wasn’t fully convinced about continuing the story either, admitting he struggles with the idea of rebooting fairytales and hasn’t seen them succeed very often. That said, he did express openness to the idea of reuniting the film’s beloved cast in some form, even if not through a traditional sequel.
Released in 2008, Jaane Tu Ya Jaane Na marked Imran Khan’s debut in Bollywood and turned out to be both a commercial success and a critical favorite.
