The first film is a testing ground for any newcomer. And playing a crazy and complex character, in one’s very first endeavor, is an uphill task, not many would attempt. For Vipinno, the actor from Africa, making his debut in his first Hindi film Tum Hi To Ho, directed by Sanjay Goel, it was not easy, acclimatizing with a new place, new people and a new profession, all at the same time.
But being the strict disciplinarian and perfectionist that he is (his perfectly cut-out body is proof of his focused lifestyle and routine), he was determined to achieve his goal, against all odds.
The odd character he portrayed, of a man with multiple mood swings, was a challenge he accepted. A challenge he has now achieved, after doing an intensive research on the medical history of how obsession and depression had mentally imbalanced the affected. Vipinno explained how he approached the demanding role, “I carefully studied award-winning performances portrayed by stalwarts from Dustin Hoffman in Rainman to
Sanjeev Kumar in Khilona, Shahrukh in Darr and Salman in Tere Naam.
After which I was terribly inspired and motivated to match up to the standards that world cinema had already set up and seen.” Does Vipinno feel his performance in Tum Hi To Ho, matches up to his role-models? Vipinno is frank to admit, “It is too early for me to even attempt matching up to the performances, of such stalwarts. All I can sum up is that my performance in the film is a humble tribute to the great talents of Sanjeev Kumar, SRK and Salman.”
