Given that Iranis are a naturally excitable people, there was full drama including an emergency C-section operation at the birth of Perizaad Zorabian’s baby on Saturday morning at a Bandra west hospital. Describing her day-old daughter as an angelic and gorgeous, seven-pound little princess, the actress and model told the story in a phone call from the hospital bedside.
She had been down with malaria for four days and was under medication. It was a tense situation, my platelet count had dropped, which made the surgery stressful and difficult, revealed Perizaad. I was afraid the malaria might reach the baby. But my gynaec, Dr Kiran Coelho, was fantastic. And with a whole team of medicos working on her, my baby was delivered at 10.04 am. She came out like a star!
Husband Boman Irani gallantly stood by her side through the entire drama, said Perizaad. He is completely in love with the baby, added the new mother. Does she have classic Irani looks? You mean is she red, laughed Perizaad, she’s got rosy little red cheeks and is so cute, I can’t tell you. When I heard her crying through my anaesthesia, I thought, ‘Oh my God, that’s my baby, this is so hard to believe’.
The mother and daughter will be discharged on Wednesday. The father, it is understood, cannot wait to get them home.
