A film on Parliament shootout?
While Ekta Kapoor apparently wants the sequel of Shootout at Lokhandwala to be inspired from a real life shootout, director Sanjay Gupta is strongly against it.
While Apoorva Lakhia directed the 2007film, Sanjay Gupta will direct its sequel. Sources say that during the making ofthe 2007 film, Lakhia and Gupta had had a fallout. Now that Gupta isdirecting the sequel of the film, Ekta has already blocked his dates for it.According to well-informed sources, Ekta wants the Shootout sequel to go intothe same headline space as the first film. The makers are franticallytrying to find another cop-gangster shootout that had appeared in thenewspapers. But Gupta, for reasons of his own, doesn’t want to do anotherfilm on a real life shootout. For the sequel of Shootout AtLokhandwala, Gupta has already bought the rights of a recent Hong Kong actionmovie. And that is what he would like Shootout Part 2 to be.WithEkta insisting on a sequel based on headlines and Gupta wanting to explorefiction, the sequel to the 2007franchise is now stuck. Frantic discussions areon between the two parties to resolve the matter. But both Kapoor and Gupta areequally adamant about their respective opinions. When contacted,Gupta candidly admits to the conflict, “Yes, Ekta wants me to make theLokhandwala sequel into another headline-inspired action film. I love Ekta todeath and would any day like to do exactly what she wants. But there is a verypractical problem to doing another headline-based Shootout.
Therehave been no prominent shootout incidents after the 1991 Lokhandwala Complexone. After that there were two major shootouts in our country one was at theParliament in 2001 and the other was 26/11.”Guptadoesn’t want to touch either. “I don’t want to do a film onthe Parliament shootout or 26/11.They involved issues and sensitivities that gofar beyond cinema. That’s why I bought the rights to the Hong Kong film. But Ekta says she wants to do a sequel based on a real incident. And shewon’t budge.”Follow us on Twitter for more stories
