Asha Kale, who essayed the role of 'Padmavati' in a Marathi play in the early 70s, which focussed on the Rani Padmini-Allauddin Khilji faceoff through the prism of religion, said that Deepika Padukone must be quite fond of the Queen.

In an interview, she said, "The play demanded intensity and understanding. I was barely in my 20s and I'd be nervous at the start of every show. But soon I got fond of Padmavati. I am sure Deepika Padukone too felt the same," said Kale.

Kale also expressed her surprise over the Rajput community going up in arms against the Sanjay Leela Bhansali directorial. "Maharashtra has by and large adhered to tolerance and creative freedom. The protest has to be peaceful and within the framework of law," she said.
