'6 peg nai 6 pack': Sukhwinder Singh thought Shah Rukh Khan is drinking six pegs everyday as his prep for 'Dard-e-disco' song in 'Om Shanti Om'
When 'Om Shanti Om' hit theatres in 2007, it wasn’t just another Shah Rukh Khan blockbuster — it became a full-blown pop culture moment. Among its biggest highlights was the chartbuster 'Dard-e-Disco', a song that marked SRK’s dramatic six-pack transformation. But as singer Sukhwinder Singh hilariously recalled, he initially thought the superstar was talking about something entirely different.
In a chat with Faridoon Shahryar on his YouTube channel, Sukhwinder looked back at the fun misunderstanding. He shared that before recording the song — composed by Vishal-Shekhar and penned by Javed Akhtar — SRK had spoken to him about working on his physique. “Shah Rukh only told me. He said I am working very hard, 6 pack… that was the first time.. other heroes have also taken off their shirts, like Sanjay Dutt, and Dharmendra before that,” Sukhwinder said.
What followed was pure comedy. “So he told me I have made a 6 pack. We were talking on the phone so it wasn’t very clear. I told Farah, ‘Yeh banda kamaal hai, 6 peg se neeche baat nahi karta.’ She asked, ‘Kaunse 6 peg?’ I said, ‘Abhi bola toh 6 peg bana raha hu.’ She said, ‘6 peg nahi 6 pack,’” Sukhwinder laughed, recalling the mix-up.
The singer also shared how he approached recording the energetic number. He wanted to capture the same electric energy the song demanded. “I said, fill the studio with bouquets of flowers and place two mics because I can’t sing this with a straight face. I need to dance. If I dance, my face might get away from the mic so the other mic will catch my vocals. That’s what they recorded,” he revealed.
'Dard-e-Disco' went on to become one of the most memorable tracks of SRK's career. 'Om Shanti Om' directed by Farah Khan was Deepika Padukone's debut in the film industry.
