​Success is not a good teacher; failure makes you humble

In 2012, when Shah Rukh Khan’s team, the Kolkata Knight Riders, won their maiden cup at IPL, Shah Rukh Khan gave a very thoughtful speech. A decade back in 2015, Shah Rukh Khan was honoured at Edinburgh University with the degree of Doctor Honoris Causa from the University Chancellor, HRH The Princess Royal. When the actor went to the stage to receive the same and address the students, he had some words of wisdom to share. He mentioned why it is important not to be defined by fear. He said, “Don't let your fears become boxes that enclose you. Open them out. Feel them and turn them into the greatest courage you are capable of.”

​It’s okay to be confused

During the same speech, he motivated the students by telling them that confusion will always be a part of life, and one must not take it as a stopping stone. He highlighted that in the journey of self-discovery, confusion and uncertainty play a pivotal role. “It’s okay to be confused. Confusion is the route to all the clarity in the world,” said King Khan.

In December 2025, Shah Rukh Khan was invited to IIM Bangalore. As he addressed the students and alumni, the actor unveiled one of the biggest truths of life. He mentioned that a perfect life is a farce and added, ‘God isn’t making utopian ad films and screening them on the clouds to sell its USP to you.”

“It’s a man-made idea, and we’re buying into it all the time,” he said.

In the same speech, he added, “There is really nothing that allows us to create better or to live better than trouble, so why not embrace it and embrace ourselves too in the bargain. And while we are embracing, let's embrace destiny too.”
