Veteran actor Anupam Kher recently took to Instagram to celebrate the 36th anniversary of his iconic film Daddy. Directed by Mahesh Bhatt, the 1989 film was a significant milestone in Kher’s career, earning him his first National Award for his powerful portrayal of an alcoholic father seeking redemption for his daughter.

In his post, Kher reminisced about the film’s impact and expressed gratitude to the people who made it special. He highlighted that Daddy marked the debut of actress Pooja Bhatt, who played his daughter in the film. Thanking Mahesh Bhatt, he called him brilliant and acknowledged his guidance in bringing the story to life.

Anupam Kher also extended his appreciation to ghazal maestro Talat Aziz, who contributed to the film’s soulful music. He credited Aziz for making the song Mujhse Mere “timeless.”

"Today marks 36 years of one of my most iconic films, #Daddy. It was #PoojaBhatt’s debut film. And I got my first #NationalAward for playing an alcoholic father who redeems himself for his daughter! Thank you, #MaheshBhatt Saab, for your love and brilliance! And my friend and ghazal maestro @talatazizofficial made this song timeless! Jai Ho!" he wrote.

Released in 1989, Daddy remains one of Kher’s most critically acclaimed performances, showcasing his ability to portray emotionally complex characters. The film’s music, composed by Rajesh Roshan, and its emotional storytelling have kept it relevant even after decades.
