Call it a coincidence or a great effort, but the year 2011 has seen many women directors coming out of the closet and make movies that have been accepted by the audience and have made a mark on the box office as well. This might just be the start of what Bollywood has always been waiting for, a healthy competition between the two sexes in the realms of direction as well.

In an industry that has been predominantly male centric, all the efforts made by these new age women are credible and highly appreciated.
This is a welcome change as Bollywood saw one of the most cherished bromance in the face of Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara directed by Zoya Akhtar. This film has set the tone for many else to follow the foot marks and make their presence felt. We asked one of the debutante directors, Deepa Sahi who directed Tere Mere Phere the reason for their success and she says, "I don't know if being a woman helps in bringing out the sensitivity better, but there shouldn't be any categorization as such." Swapna Waghmare Joshi resounds the same sentiments saying, "A director is a director nevertheless. We have seen it so many times a male director bringing out perfect female sensitivity and females being perfect on the technical front."
So it is clear that these women don't want to be categorized on the basis of mere sex. Talent, efforts and the end result of a creative endeavour is what they look for
