10 times Indian celebrities shocked everyone with their body transformations

Bollywood stars are known for going the extra mile to get into character, but some transformations have truly shocked fans and critics alike. From dramatic weight gain to intense fat loss and ripped physiques, these actors pushed their limits physically and mentally for their roles. Here’s a look at 10 jaw-dropping body transformations that prove their unwavering dedication to the craft.

Aamir Khan

Aamir Khan's 'Dangal' transformation was extraordinary and showcased his dedication to authenticity. He first gained around 28-30 kg, reaching nearly 97-98 kg, to portray the older Mahavir Singh Phogat with a realistic pot-bellied look, avoiding body suits. After shooting those scenes, he embarked on a grueling five-month journey to lose about 25 kg, reducing his body fat from 37% to under 10%. His routine included 7-8 hours of daily exercise, weight training, cardio, trekking, and wrestling, combined with a strict 1500-calorie diet. This physical crusade reflected his commitment to embodying the character's real-life physicality and presence.

Bhumi Pednekar

Bhumi Pednekar's transformation for 'Dum Laga Ke Haisha' was remarkable. She gained over 30 kg to authentically portray an overweight bride, embracing the role with enthusiasm and enjoying her favorite foods like butter chicken. After the film, she lost more than 35 kg through a balanced, sustainable routine focusing on health rather than crash diets or extreme workouts.

4/11

Randeep Hooda

Randeep Hooda's transformation journeys for 'Sarbjit' and 'Swatantrya Veer Savarkar' were intense and physically demanding. For 'Sarbjit', he lost 18 kg in just 28 days by drastically cutting food and water intake to authentically portray a prisoner’s deteriorated health. For 'Swatantrya Veer Savarkar', he lost around 30 kg and remained underweight for nearly 1.5 years, enduring weakness and fainting spells. Hooda credits fasting for aiding his digestive health but warns against extreme weight loss, highlighting the toll such transformations took on his body and well-being.

5/11

Kriti Sanon

Kriti Sanon gained 15 kg in just two months for her role as a surrogate mother in 'Mimi', embracing the physical challenges with dedication. She intentionally avoided exercise during this period to gain weight naturally by eating high-calorie foods. After filming, Kriti lost weight through a disciplined high-protein, low-carb Zone Diet and regular workouts, even during lockdown without gym access.

Hrithik Roshan

Hrithik Roshan for 'Super 30' gained significant weight to portray a common man, letting go of his usual chiselled physique. Soon after, for 'War', he underwent a rapid and gruelling transformation, shedding fat and building muscle in just two months to flaunt a ripped, action-hero body. Despite battling injuries and a "lazy" body, Hrithik's disciplined workouts, physiotherapy, and strict diet helped him achieve jaw-dropping results, inspiring fans worldwide.

7/11

Farhan Akhtar

Farhan Akhtar for 'Toofaan' maintained an intense and multifaceted transformation. He first lost weight and built a lean, athletic boxer’s physique through rigorous boxing training, strength exercises, and a strict low-calorie, high-protein diet. Later, he rapidly gained 15 kg in six weeks by consuming around 5,000 calories daily, focusing on high-carb and high-fat foods to portray different phases of his character. His daily routine included 6-8 hours of training, cycling, and physiotherapy, reflecting his commitment to authenticity and fitness discipline.

8/11

Kartik Aaryan

Kartik Aaryan underwent a remarkable transformation for 'Chandu Champion', losing 18 kg over 14 months, reducing his body fat from 39% to just 7% naturally, without steroids or injections. Under trainer Tridev Pandey’s guidance, he built strength and agility through rigorous boxing training, mastering push-ups and skipping variations. His disciplined routine included a calorie-deficit, high-protein diet, fixed sleep schedule, and consistent workouts.

9/11

Vidya Balan

Vidya Balan's transformation journey is marked by courage and self-acceptance. For 'The Dirty Picture', she gained 12 kg to authentically portray Silk, a bold and brazen character, challenging Bollywood’s beauty norms. Despite facing body shaming and health struggles due to inflammation, Vidya embraced her body's fluctuations, focusing on healing rather than just weight loss.

10/11

Rajkummar Rao

Rajkummar Rao's role in 'Trapped' was intense and physically demanding. To portray a man locked in an apartment without food or water, he lost 7 kg in 22 days by surviving on just one carrot and black coffee daily. This extreme diet helped him look convincingly malnourished and desperate. For the web series Bose, he gained 11 kg and shaved half his head to embody Subhas Chandra Bose.

11/11

Parineeti Chopra

Parineeti Chopra gained 16 kg for her role as Amarjot Kaur in 'Amar Singh Chamkila', undergoing a challenging physical transformation. Once very fit with visible abs, she deliberately adopted an unhealthy diet, eating heavy meals and avoiding workouts for six months to achieve the desired look. The weight gain affected her sleep, mood, and stamina, and she faced criticism and lost brand endorsements. Despite the struggles, Parineeti views this transformation as a valuable sacrifice for her craft and a career milestone.
