These dads root for healthy lifestyle and set major fitness goals for kids

The theme for International Men’s Day 2020 is ‘Better health for men and boys’. So, we spoke to some of the fit celeb fathers who are not just imparting the importance of following a healthy lifestyle in their children, but also leading by example in doing so. From working out with their kids, to engaging in conversations around wellness here’s what these dads do:

The newer generation is well-aware: Sonu Sood

My sons Eshaan and Ayaan have seen me working out and taking care of my health daily. So, they have automatically inherited that trait. I must add that the newer generation is well-aware and has a better understanding of health and fitness. My younger one is into martial arts and the elder one loves basketball. So, both enjoy being active and healthy. As far as their emotional well-being is concerned, I motivate them to voice their opinion and express their emotions freely.

Ahil accompanies me to gym and observes me keenly: Aayush Sharma

In order to make kids understand the importance of fitness, we need to speak the language they understand. Whenever I head to the gym, I tell my son Ahil that I am going to Batman’s cave. I have told him all the superheroes workout and stay healthy, and that has gotten him interested in fitness. In fact, a lot of times he accompanies me to the gym and observes me. He plays cricket and soon, I will be enrolling him into gymnastics as well.

My sons and I workout together in the gym with the same fitness instructor: Remo D’Souza

My boys, Gabriel and Adonis, and I often engage in conversations veering around the importance of leading a healthy lifestyle. For topics like this, we need to catch them young. In fact, we workout together in the gym with the same fitness instructor. Plus, dance is the best workout, which not only keeps us healthy physically but also mentally. During the lockdown, when gyms were closed we had our own fun dance sessions.

I ensure my kids don’t feel pressured: Sushil Kumar

At six-years-old, my twin sons Suvarn and Suveer begin their day by doing yoga and I join them often. We have also set up a small gym-of-sorts at home especially for them. However, as a parent I ensure that they don’t feel pressured because of all this. Moreover, apart from me, their maternal and paternal grandfathers are also wrestlers, so there’s a natural environment at home wherein everyone organically follows a healthy lifestyle.

My idea is to let the kids be themselves: Shabir Ahluwalia

I feel in order to inculcate healthy habits, children need to be closer to nature. So, I take Azai and Ivarr on adventurous activities like trekking and hiking. They need to have a healthy mind, everything else will follow. My idea is to let the kids be themselves. We indulge in sports like football but I make sure that the entire activity for them is pure fun.
