Talking to India Today, she revealed that her response was exactly like how the audience have been reacting to the story. She couldn’t help but burst into laughter and tears as mixed emotions hit her after reading the script for the first time.
Bhumi who was amazed by the film’s representation of the queer community sensitively, went on to assert how the two characters played by her and Raj were nothing phenomenal but flawed and grey. “They are flawed, they are grey, they have courage and they are as human as they are and that's what worked for ‘Badhaai Do’,” she highlighted explaining what must have connected the viewers with the films.
The actress had full confidence in the film which further increased after seeing the heartwarming response from the audience.

Helmed by Junglee Pictures, ‘Badhaai Do’ is directed by Harshavardhan Kulkarni. “I keep hearing people praising Bhumi and Rajkummar. I just tell them that maine kuch nahin kiya, jo kiya inhone hi kiya. All I had to do was tell them the scene and they were there, and of course, the script was on point. Then came the improv that these two brought in, not just these two but everyone in our ensemble was great. We also had a new face from North East, Chum Darang who is sensational. She has never acted before but when I saw her audition, I was just impressed. The way she picked things up, it was a done deal. My cast members were so sharp that I had to be on my toes because I know how intelligent they are in their field. I think that’s why they performed so well,” previously shared Kulkarni with ETimes exclusively.

Apart from Bhumi Pednekar and Rajkummar Rao in the lead, it also starred Chum Darang, Seema Pahwa and Sheeba Chaddha in key roles. It was released last month during Valentine’s week.
