We have a few prominent names from the

Bollywood

industry who have gone out and spoken their heart-out about

depression

and

mental health

, including actors like Deepika Padukone who spoke about her struggles and depression post stardom, and then Manisha Koirala joined by several others. Joining the brigade is the '

Bade Achhe Lagte Hain

' fame actor

Chhahat Khanna

,
who was recently seen in

Prasthanam

opposite Sanjay Dutt and is a

single mother

of two kids, speaks about her mental harassment, domestic abuse and subsequent divorce.

Speaking about getting divorce and citing reasons of mental harrasment and domestic abuse and more about this, Chhhat Khanna says, "I got married at an early age and before I could know anything, became a mother. There was a huge pressure in the family against me. I wasn't able to work and then the series of other sequence of unfortunate events happened in my life. The relationship with my husband got toxic and I had to get a divorce. I was under severe depression and clinical therapy. It took a huge toll on my professionally and personally and it was very difficult for a single mother like me all over. I had to take care of my kids and parents. It was a very dark period and that's where I found my strength to rise."

Chhahat, who has championed depression with strong will-power, further adds, "The success now tastes even better and it only has made me stronger. I really believe that we must come forward and speak up on the importance of mental health and how it should be discussed openly and treated just like physical injuries are treated. There needs to be much more awareness of mental health. Mind is an organ as well and the most important one. It has fractures and breakdowns that need attention and treatment if need be. If we have a bone fracture we don't over work it, we allow it to heal. Similarly we have to treat the mind as very important organ and let it heal. Let's all stand up to it. Its a desperate need of the hour and I can't tell you how many people are suffering other than just the ones who commit

suicide

. Several suicides happen related to depression and disturbed state of mind and mental instability and in most of the cases, we don't even come to know about it. However, there is a dire need to find grit to stand up and share ourselves so we can heal and move ahead and not stay in the shadow of depression that kills not just our future but our present."
Well, we just hope that Chhahat words serve as a huge inspiration to millions.
