Despite strong promotions and decent direction, Big Films horror flick 13 B did not open to good response. One can't really blame the horror genre since more recently horror films like Phoonk, 1920 and Raaz have done reasonably well. It's got more to do with the exam period where the film lost on a major target audience ' the youth. The Tamil version of the same film had comparatively much better collections since Madhavan enjoys a huge fan-following down south.
Saif Ali Khan Health Update
UTV seemed to have little expectations from its own product Dhoondte Reh Jaoge which wasn't as strongly promoted as expected from the banner, which has marketed even its small films to good extent. Moreover with its outright slapstick approach, the film clearly had no audience. Sushmita Sen's long-delayed Karma and Holi was rejected from day one. The scene doesn't seem to get better for any of this week's releases despite the Holi holidays on Tuesday and Wednesday. People prefer playing Holi over visiting cinemahalls on Holi-days. The coming week has 3 releases. Anurag Kashyap's Gulaal is a strong political drama on Rajasthan's Rajput rajniti. With strong performances, rustic musical score and Anurag's brooding direction, the film should find its own audience who are interested in dark and different cinema. Though the film was one of Anurag's initial attempts, thankfully it doesn't look dated. Indian Films Little Zizou is the directorial debut of writer Sooni Taraporevala who had scripted films like Salaam Bombay and Mississippi Masala. This comedy film about a little boy's aspirations to meet Zinedine Zidane set around the Parsi backdrop looks interesting and should find its audience at the multiplex. The third release Jai Veeru seems to be a complete masala affair with Fardeen Khan and Kunal Khemu playing friends turned foes.
