Vijay Deverakonda created a niche for himself with Arjun Reddy and Geetha Govindam, but since then he has struggled to leave a mark at the box office, be it with Liger or Dear Comrade or World Famous Lover or his last release Kushi. The actor has now teamed up with Mrunal Thakur for his next Family Star, which is all set to release on 5th April across the globe.

Both the actors are extremely excited about the film, in fact in an interview with ETimes, Mrunal Thakur shared that it is a film for the entire family. But it seems the film is finding it difficult to connect with audiences not only in India but also in the USA, where it has been sold for nearly USD 1.5 million.

In the USA, advance booking for the premiere shows has opened in just 162 locations where it has lined up 400 shows. Till now the film has managed to sell just about 3200 tickets amassing nearly US $ 50,000 (Rs 40 lakhs). With just a couple of days left for the premiere, it is paramount for the ticket sales to jump else it will be a loss making proposition.

On 5th April, the film would be clashing with two major releases in US, one being Dev Patel’s Monkey Man which has been carrying a tremendous word of mouth post its premiere at South by SouthWest Festival. Also releasing on the same day is The First Omen which is the prequel to Omen ( 1976).
