John Abraham’s hard luck at the box office continues, as his latest film Vedaa adds to the long list of underwhelming releases with films like
Satyameva Jayate 2,
Attack,
Ek Villain Returns, and
Mumbai Saga. His only recent success has been
Pathaan alongside Shah Rukh Khan.
Vedaa released on August 15, to cash in on the long 5 day-weekend, and ended up clashing with Shraddha Kapoor’s Stree 2 and Akshay’s Khel Khel Mein, minting only Rs 17.6 crore. During the advance booking phase, Vedaa was second to Stree 2 leading the front, and Khel Khel Mein in the third spot. But post-release, Vedaa fell below Khel Khel Mein to take the third spot.
On its second Friday, this John Abraham and Sharvari starrer was able to mint only Rs 30 lakh, which was a 50 % drop from its Thursday collection. But Saturday came with much respite, as its collection jumped by nearly 80 % to collect Rs 55 lakh, and on Sunday the collections jumped to Rs 80 lakh as per early estimates by Sacnilk, thus taking the overall collection of the film to Rs 19.25 crore.
Vedaa has beaten lifetime collections of John’s previous films like Satyameva Jayate 2 ( Rs 14.16 crore) , Attack- Part 1 (Rs 16 crore) , Mumbai Saga ( Rs 16.5 crore). It seems unlikely that Vedaa will be able to beat the collection of Ek Villain Returns which had minted Rs 43.21 crore.
John Abraham's next film is
Tehran, where he stars alongside Manushi Chhillar. He is also expected to join
Housefull 5, produced by Sajid Nadiadwala, with Akshay Kumar, Riteish Deshmukh, Fardeen Khan, and Boman Irani. Meanwhile, Sharvari, the lead in
Vedaa, is currently filming
Alpha with Alia Bhatt. Hrithik Roshan is set to make a cameo in that, expanding YRF’s Spy Universe.
