Vidya Balan's The Dirty Picture, in its second week, still seems to be doing better than the new releases of this week.
Post the surprise-hit status of Band Baaja Baaraat, expectations were rife with Yash Raj Films' Ladies vs Ricky Bahl coming from the same team of Ranveer Singh, Anushka Sharma and director Maneesh Sharma.
1x1 polls
While the film is decent entertainment, it never exceeds expectations like Band Baaja Baaraat. The opening is in the range of 20-30% which isn't much to rave about. And in an age when every film is going over the top with publicity, Yash Raj Films kept their promotions low-key (like most of their movies). Also a positive word of mouth like Band Baaja Baaraat seems unlikely for the collections to pick up over the weekend.
Vikram Bhatt production Lanka has received rave reviews for Manoj Bajpayee's powerful performance though once again the appreciation hasn't translated into huge numbers at the box-office.
Meanwhile The Dirty Picture has almost reached Rs 50 crore mark in its first weekend and continues to rule the box-office. "Audiences are going for repeat runs of the film. Vidya Balan's sex-appeal has got in the masses. And the sensible handling of story has also got in the classes. So it's win-win situation for the film", says a trade expert.
