'The Devil Wears Prada 2' is nearing the end of week 1 and doing so on a high, after crossing the Rs 20 crore mark at the Indian box office.
According to reports on Sacnilk, the fashion drama that completed six days at cinemas, hit the Rs 20 crore gross mark on Wednesday. Headlined by Meryl Streep and Anne Hathaway, the sequel has maintained steady collections despite facing stiff competition at the box office from domestic releases.
According to the latest report, the film collected approximately Rs 1.25 crore on Day 6, recording a noticeable slowdown after a good opening weekend. This has taken the film's India net collections to an estimated Rs 17.05 crore across 1,547 shows. Meanwhile, the film's gross total has now hit an estimated Rs 20.34 crore.
The film opened strongly with a Rs 3.80 crore haul on Day 1, followed by Rs 4 crore on Day 2 and Rs 3.85 crore on Day 3, benefitting from nostalgia surrounding the original cult classic and strong turnouts at urban multiplexs. However, collections saw a decline during the weekdays, with the film earning Rs 1.25 crore on Day 4 and Rs 1.20 crore on Day 5.
Internationally, the fashion drama continues to perform well at the US and other international markets. Overseas collections are estimated at Rs 1,565 crore, pushing the film’s worldwide gross to approximately Rs 2,450 crore. As per international trade figures, the film directed by
David Frankel, took in USD 77 million in the US and Canadian market, and USD 156.6 million internationally. The movie cost a reported USD 100 million to produce.
The first movie that opened in June 2006 went on to earn a lifetime collection of over USD 326 million worldwide. With all the buzz around the new film, it is now expected to cross these numbers in just its second weekend.
Set years after the events of the first movie, 'The Devil Wears Prada 2' revisits the glamorous yet ruthless world of Runway Magazine in New York City. The sequel explores how its iconic characters navigate the rapidly changing fashion and media landscape, balancing old-school luxury with the demands of the digital age.
