It is a known fact that the North American (USA + Canada) circuit is usually dominated by Telugu and Hindi films amongst Indian audiences. But when it comes to
Thalapathy Vijay, just his name is enough to transcend all boundaries. His latest film, The Greatest of All Time (GOAT), directed by Venkat Prabhu, has minted more than US $ 3 million in the first weekend. The film even made an entry in the US TOP list for the weeknd on the 9th spot. The list has been dominated by films like Beetlejuice Beetlejuice, Deadpool And Wolverine, Reagan and Alien: Romulus.
The North American circuit is split between the United States of America and Canada. From its USA screens GOAT has collected over US $ 2,345,600 in 4 days including the premiere shows. While the Canada collections are over US $ 1.13 million and the total collection stands at US $ 3.48 million (Rs 29 crore). The breakeven number for GOAT is said to be about US $ 3 million and one can assume that the film has now ventured into that space. With no big Hindi or Telugu release till 27th September, the film is expected to enjoy a good run at the ticket windows and earn a good profit for everyone involved.
GOAT has already crossed the Rs 150 crore mark in India, with major contributions coming from Tamil Nadu state and Telugu and Hindi versions providing little support. The Greatest of All Time, features Vijay in a dual role and a star-studded cast of Prashanth, Prabhu Deva, and Meenakshi Chaudhary. It is the penultimate film for Vijay, who will soon be taking a jump into the world of politics. He’s already formed his party and launched a flag and logo with the Election Commission recognizing it as a political party on Saturday.
