With the only release of week Yeh Faasley finding no takers, Tanu Weds Manu is ruling at box-office and will have no competition for the next 3 weeks. The only release of this week Yeh Faasley starring Anupam Kher in the lead role was a weak enough film to sustain itself at the box-office despite being a solo release. Not only was the film low on star-vale and promotions, even the content was very mediocre thereby denying it its niche target audience.
That gave Tanu Weds Manu another maiden week, being the only option for moviegoers amidst the (literal) no-show at box-office. Studio 18 and the investors of Tanu Weds Manu could not have asked for a better release timing for their film. While the preceding big releases like 7 Khoon Maaf and Patiala House hit the dust, there have been no prominent releases post the release of Tanu Weds Manu with the Cricket World Cup taking over. There is absolutely no release (not even smallies or B-graders) for the next few weeks. Farhan Akhtar produced Game (Abhishek Bachchan, Kangana Ranaut) and Vashu Bhagnanis FALTU (Jackky Bhagnani, Riteish Deshmukh, Arshad Warsi) will bring back movies to box office on April 1, a day before the World Cup comes to an end. Anees Bazmees Thank You (Akshay Kumar, Bobby Deol, Irrfan Khan, Sonam Kapoor) is the only big film to release post World Cup and before the IPL craze takes over. Perhaps Thank You would be able to have the same fate as Tanu Weds Manu since big releases will continue to stay away once IPL starts.
