'Sunny Sanskari Ki Tulsi Kumari' box office collection day 1: The Varun Dhawan, Janhvi Kapoor starrer opens at Rs 9 crore, while Rishab Shetty's 'Kantara' makes a whopping Rs 60 crore
'sunny Sanskari Ki Tulsi Kumari' released in theatres on October 2 on the occasion of 'Dussehra' and Gandhi Jayanti. The film sees Varun Dhawan opposite Janhvi Kapoor. The duo had worked together earlier in 'Bawaal'. It also stars Rohit Saraf, Sanya Malhotra and is directed by Shashank Khaitan. The film being a romcom was expected to have a moderate opening and may see growth now with positive word of mouth. Moreover, it released along with Rishab Shetty's 'Kantara: Chapter 1' so, it was bound to face competition from it. There's a huge difference between the opening day collections of both the movies and that's okay as there's also a difference in the scale and budget of the movies.
Sunny Sanskari Ki Tulsi Kumari Movie Review
As per Sacnilk, 'SSKTK' made Rs 9.25 crore on day 1. As per the advance bookings, the one had expected an opening in the range of ₹8–10 crore. We just saw that in the era of action and larger-than-life movies working, a romantic film like 'Saiyaara' broke all records which has carved a path for romcoms in theatres again. For the longest time after Covid, one had begun to think that romcoms were now only meant for OTT and not for the big screen but 'Saiyaara' broke that. So, in terms of that, this is a decent opening, though, does not match up to the historic Rs 20 crore on day 1 which 'Saiyaara' had achieved. However, there's positive word of mouth and one may see growth for 'SSKTK' over the weekend. It may cross the double digit number each on both the days and that would be beneficial for it.
On the other hand, Kantara: Chapter 1 (Hindi) is generating far stronger buzz, with opening day projections hovering around ₹12–15 crore in Hindi alone. The total collection of the movie in all languages is Rs 60 crore. This number is huge, considering yesterday there was still garba being played in the night on the last day of navratri and lesser people may have flocked to cinemas. It may see growth over the weekend if there is word of mouth.
As per Box Office India, the Hindi version’s advance sales only had crossed Rs 5 crore, outpacing films such as Jolly LLB 3 (₹3.23 crore gross) and Sitaare Zameen Par (₹3.30 crore gross). Lately, only a handful of rom-coms have managed to kick off with double-digit openings. In 2023, Ranbir Kapoor–Shraddha Kapoor’s Tu Jhoothi Main Makkaar and Ranveer Singh–Alia Bhatt’s Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani both crossed the ₹10 crore mark on day one and eventually delivered strong global collections. However, 'Sunny Sanskari Ki Tulsi Kumari', missed the double digit mark just by an inch.
