With urban-centric youth being the target audience for both Shaitan and X-Men: First Class, viewers preferred the already popular franchise of X-Men. Anurag Kashyapspresentation Shaitan, despite being the only prominent release of the week, had a major setback because of the Hollywood flick X-Men: First Class. This was another of those weeks when the Hollywood flick almost outshined the Bollywood.
With urban-centric youth being the target audience for both the films, there was a clear clash and viewers preferred the already popular franchise of
X-Men. This despite the fact that Shaitan was a well-made film and was received very positively by the critics as well! Shaitan collected around Rs 3.4 crores in its opening weekend while Fox Star Studios have revealed figures that X-Men: First Class has collected a record-breaking figure of Rs 10.02 crores. Its dubbed versions in Hindi, Tamil and Telugu have added to the collections. The other Hindi release of the week Subhash Ghais Love Express went almost unnoticed with no hype surrounding its release. Also Ghais combo-deal to watch the film with his other production Cycle Kick went kaput due to some legal issues. So he could release only one film. Cycle Kick releases this week and has as bleak chances as Love Express because of the lack of awareness about its existence. This Friday sees a mad-rush of releases at the box-office with as many as six small films clashing and almost committing mass-suicide, in a way. Kay Kay Menon starrer Bhindi Baazaar Inc seems strong on content and has managed to keep itself in news (despite the delay in release) thanks to its planted controversies. Always Kabhi Kabhi doesnt look as hot as it should have been considering its a Shah Rukh Khan production. It needs to be seen whether Vinay Pathaks Bheja Fry 2 can gain the same cult status that the prequel got in 2007. Aftab Shivdasani starrer Bin Bulaaye Baraati comes from nowhere and seems to be going nowhere. And other than Cycle Kick, there is one more film titled My Husbands Wife (dubbed in Hindi as Mere Pati Ki Patni) which tries to play on sensationalism but alas a futile attempt. So as they say.... may the best film win!
