While the hype surrounding Ranbir Kapoor's Rockstar has helped it get a decent opening, the negative word of mouth could affect its overall prospects. Ranbir Kapoor's spectacular performance in
Rockstar has expectedly opened to good response. The day 1 figure came to Rs 11.25 crores winning the film the title for the 7th largest first day collections in Bollywood.
The target audience was youth and business was good at multiplexes as compared to single screens, which remained on the lower side. The first weekend nett collections is around Rs 37 crores (Rs 53 crores gross). Even the overseas business with Rs 11 crores gross has been decent taking the overall weekend gross to Rs 64 crores. However the movie has got mixed response from people who have watched it, with most being disappointed with the latter half of the film. So word-of-mouth could work against the film. The ensuing business will decide the fate of the film.
The coming week surprisingly sees only one release
Shakal Pe Mat Ja and though it appears like a promising small-budget film with a new cast, it is no competition to Rockstar. But Ranbir Kapoor's film to continue to do good business (in lack of competition) in the second week seems improbable. So it has missed a good business opportunity. Will
Shakal Pe Mat Ja be able to cash on an apparent maiden week? Its content will decide.
