Akshay Kumar starrer ‘
Ram Setu’ clashed with Sidharth Malhotra and Ajay Devgn’s ‘Thank God’ on the occasion of Diwali. Akshay’s adventure drama has managed to beat the fantasy drama at the box office.
On its second weekend, ‘Ram Setu’ added Rs 4.75 crore nett to its total, which now stands at Rs 69 crore nett. After a huge downward trend, the film is inching closer to Rs 70 crore nett and is expected to end its theatrical run with a little less than Rs 75 crore nett, reports Boxofficeindia. ‘Ram Setu’ has made maximum business in Gujarat / Saurashtra markets. Ajay Devgn starrer ‘Thank God’ barely added Rs 1.25 crore nett to its total on the second weekend. Currently, the film stands at a total collection of Rs 32.50 crore nett.
Weeks after its release, ‘Ram Setu’ recently landed in trouble after a historian threatened legal action against the makers. According to reports, Ashok Kumar Kainth, who heads the department of Ramayan Research Committee in Sri Lanka, has alleged that his research work and life story have been used in the film without his permission. He has also claimed that parts of the story have been fabricated. Directed by
Abhishek Sharma, ‘Ram Setu’ narrates the journey of Dr Aryan, an atheist archaeologist-turned-believer, who races against time to prove the true existence of the legendary Ram Setu. Kainth has claimed that the lead character's story is inspired from his life. The makers are yet to react to this.
