Rajinikanth is back on the big screen with director T. J. Gnanavel’s 'Vettaiyan' after the huge success of Nelson Dilipkumar’s 'Jailer' which went on to mint over Rs 600 crore at the worldwide box office. The film sees him collaborating with Amitabh Bachchan after a gap of 32 years. The last time the two megastars came together on
screen was for Mukul S Anand’s 'Hum'.
The film 'Vettaiyan' follows the story of a retired police officer (played by Rajinikanth) who rises up to fight against the system. About a week ago the makers released the Prevue of the film and it has already crossed the 10 million mark. The film that is slated for a Dussehra release on 10th October, will be clashing with the release of Alia Bhatt’s 'Jigra' and Rajkummar Rao and Triptii Dimri’s 'Vicky Vidya Ka Woh Wala Video'.
While advance booking for 'Vettaiyan' is yet to begin in India, tickets have already gone on sale in the United States of America where it has till now sold over 4,000 tickets for its premiere day shows, amassing nearly $97,000 (Rs 80 lakh) for almost 100 shows. It would be interesting to see if 'Vettaiyan; would be able to beat the premiere record set by 'Jailer' which was in the range $700,000.
'Vettaiyan' also features Rana Daggubati, Fahadh Faasil, Manju Warrier and Ritika Singh in pivotal roles. The music of the film has been given by Anirudh Ravichnader, who also makes an appearance in the song Manasilaayo which features Rajinikanth and Manju Warrier. The song has taken social media by storm for its beat-thumping music and amazing dance moves.
