Every time a Rajinikanth film releases in theaters, it’s a festival for his fans. That festive spirit can be seen once again with the release of his latest film Vettaiyan. The film had an advance booking of nearly Rs 16 crore, excluding block bookings, and has already collected Rs 5.82 crore from its morning shows, which began as early as 4 AM. In Tamil Nadu, screenings only started at 9 AM.

The film is witnessing tremendous positive buzz, and it will be interesting to see if it can surpass the trade prediction of a Rs 25 crore Day 1 collection. Compared to Rajinikanth’s recent films like Annaatthe, Darbar, or Jailer, Vettaiyan has opened lower than expected.

Directed by T. J. Gnanavel, Vettaiyan marks Rajinikanth’s reunion with Amitabh Bachchan after 32 years, their last collaboration being Mukul S. Anand’s Hum. The film centers around a police officer, played by Rajinikanth, who is known for his disregard for rules as he confronts a surge in lawlessness. The film also features Rana Daggubati, Fahadh Faasil, Manju Warrier, and Ritika Singh in pivotal roles.

Rajinikanth’s next film is Lokesh Kanagaraj’s Coolie, which is now part of Lokesh’s Cinematic Universe, including titles like Vikram, Leo, and Kaithi. Coolie also features Nagarjuna, Shruti Haasan, Sivakarthikeyan, and Upendra Rao. The superstar is currently recuperating from a non-surgical procedure to treat swelling in his aorta, and he is expected to return to the sets in the coming weeks. There are also rumors of him teaming up with Salman Khan for Atlee’s next project.
