Abhay Verma, Sharvari and Mona Singh starrer Munjya, directed by Aditya Sarpotdar based on Maharastrian folklore, has a clear goal in mind and that is to enter the 100 crore club. And the film is doing it in style despite competing with one of the biggest hits of the year - Nag Ashwin’s Kalki 2898 AD. The film has recently crossed the Rs 96 crore mark and on Wednesday, it added another Rs 50 lakh - a mere 9 percent drop from Tuesday, to its collection which stands at Rs 96.50 crore.
The film has a very high chance of crossing the Rs 100 crore mark in the coming week. Earlier, it would have faced competition from Ajay Devgn and Tabu starrer Auron Mein Kahan Dum Tha, which was releasing over the weekend, but the film has been postponed. This Friday, Lakshya and Raghav Juyal‘s Kill is set for release. Kill is a co-production between Guneet Monga and Karan Johar and is called one of the goriest films of Indian Cinema, with an A certificate, limiting its audience.
Munjya is part of Dinesh Vijan’s horror comedy universe along with Shraddha Kapoor and Rajkummar Rao’s Stree and Varun Dhawan and Kriti Sanon’s Bhediya and one can expect characters from all three films to have a crossover soon. In fact after werewolves and ghosts now even vampires are being added to the horror universe as Aditya Sarpotdar is kickstarts his next film The Vampires of Vijay Nagar with Ayushmann Khurrana and Rashmika Mandanna soon.
