Abhay Verma, Mona Singh and Sharvari starrer Munjya, directed by Aditya Sarpotdar seems to be losing steam at the box office as it faces stiff competition from Nag Ashwin’s Kalki 2898 AD, which released on Thursday.
On Thursday itself, Munjya’s collection dropped to Rs 85 lakh, on the same day Kalki clocked in Rs 22.5 crore in Hindi. And on Friday, the onslaught continued where Kalki once again earned Rs 22.5 crore, while Munjya dropped to Rs 76 lakh as per early estimates by Sacnilk. The total collection of the film, which has just entered its fourth week now stands at Rs 91.66 crore, though the film is expected to show some resistance over the weekend.
Munjya continues to be the third highest grossing Hindi film of the year after Hrithik Roshan, Deepika Padukone and Anil Kapoor starrer Fighter and Ajay Devgn and R Madhavan’s Shaitaan. It is now marching towards Rs 100 crore box office collection. The film is part of Dinesh Vijan’s horror comedy universe along with Shraddha Kapoor and Rajkummar Rao’s Stree and Varun Dhawan and Kriti Sanon’s Bhediya and one can expect characters from all three films to have a crossover soon. In fact, after werewolves and ghosts, even vampires are now being added to the horror universe as Aditya Sarpotdar is kickstaring his next film The Vampires of Vijay Nagar with Ayushmann Khurrana and Rashmika Mandanna soon.
