‘Mahavatar Narsimha’ beats ‘Son of Sardaar 2’ and ‘Saiyaara’ over the weekend

In a weekend full of surprises, Mahavatar Narsimha emerged as the box office champion at Hindi box office window, eclipsing big-ticket star-driven films like Son of Sardaar 2 and the much-celebrated Saiyaara. What makes this feat even more astonishing is that Mahavatar Narsimha is an animated devotional action drama , a genre that rarely commands such dominance in the Indian market.

Directed by Ashwin Kumar Mahavatar Narsimha pulled off a massive 34.80 crore net in its second weekend, a staggering 219 % jump from its debut weekend net of 15.85 crore. With that, the film’s total domestic net collection stands at 91.25 crore across languages while it’s Hindi version stands at Rs 67.25 crore. ,


Despite being in its second weekend, Mahavatar Narsimha steamrolled over new releases. Ajay Devgn’s Son of Sardaar 2, a mainstream masala entertainer with commercial appeal, opened to a moderate 24.75 crore net over the weekend, it also went past Dhadak 2 led by Siddhant Chaturvedi and Triptii Dimri which made about Rs 11 crore. .

Also facing the Narsimha storm was Vijay Deverakonda’s Kingdom, which had shown promise with a strong Thursday opening of 21.25 crore gross. However, it lost momentum over the weekend, bringing in 22.50 crore net from Friday to Sunday with most collections coming from Telugu and Tamil versions. . Despite Deverakonda’s growing popularity, the film failed to sustain buzz or match the pace set by its early numbers.

Meanwhile, Saiyaara, led by Ahaan Panday and Aneet Padda, directed by Mohit Suri continued its golden run in its third weekend, collecting 19.25 crore net. With a total domestic net of 300 crore in 17 days, Saiyaara is among the year’s biggest hits. Yet, even its sustained performance couldn’t challenge the weekend might of Mahavatar Narsimha.

What Mahavatar Narsimha has achieved is unprecedented for an animated film in India. Its powerful mythological storytelling, mass connect, and devotional appeal have clearly struck a chord across demographics, outperforming bigger stars and studio-backed ventures.
