Vicky Kaushal’s upcoming historical epic Chhava has seen a massive surge in advance bookings, and Maharashtra has emerged as the dominant contributor, accounting for a staggering 66.22% ( Rs 4.65 crore from total collection of Rs7.57 crore). Given that the film is based on the life of Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj, one of Maharashtra’s most revered warriors, this overwhelming response was expected. Sambhaji Maharaj, the valiant son of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj, is celebrated for his bravery and resilience against the mighty Mughal Empire, making him an enduring icon of Maratha pride.

Beyond Maharashtra, Karnataka (5.79%), Telangana (5.41%), and Delhi (5.26%) have also shown strong pre-release interest. However, the contrast is stark—Maharashtra’s contribution dwarfs that of the rest of the country, reaffirming its emotional and historical connection to the subject matter.

While the initial momentum is driven largely by the Marathi audience’s deep admiration for Sambhaji Maharaj, Chhava has the potential to find a wider national appeal post-release. The film’s powerful storytelling, Vicky Kaushal’s intense performance, and the narrative of Maratha valor could strike a chord with audiences across India. If word-of-mouth remains strong, Chhava might witness a surge in collections from states like Gujarat, Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan, and West Bengal, where historical epics have previously performed well.

With Maharashtra leading the way, Chhava is poised for the biggest day 1 opening of the year which is currently with Akshay Kumar’s Sky Force with Rs 12.25 crore. The real test will be whether the film can sustain its momentum beyond its core audience and captivate the rest of the country with its tale of courage and sacrifice.
