Aatish Kapadia and JD Majethia’s Khichdi 2, sequel to Khichdi: The Movie (2010) has maintained a steady pace on the second day of its release. The film which opened to about Rs 1.1 crore on day 1, managed to collect a similar amount on day two. As per industry tracker Sacnilk, the film collected Rs 1.15 crore as per early estimates on its second day, taking the two day total to Rs 2.25 crore.
It has maintained about 21% occupancy through its shows across the country. Khichdi 2 has released just 5 days apart from Salman Khan and Katrina Kaif starrer Tiger 3 which has already minted more than Rs 200 crore at the box office. It would be interesting to see how the film fares on Sunday as it not only faces competition from Tiger 3 but also from India Vs Australia’s World Cup Final match will take away its audience especially during the evening and night shows.
Directed by Aatish Kapadia, the movie features Supriya Pathak, Rajeev Mehta, Anang Desai, Vandana Pathak, Kirti Kulhari, and actor-producer Jamnadas Majethia (JD) in prominent roles.
Originating as a stage play, Khichdi centers on the quirks of a Mumbai-based Gujarati joint family. It subsequently transformed into a sitcom, web series, and film. The sequel, an adventure comedy, arrives 13 years after the initial release.
